Consulting firms will often recruit and train analyst/consultant level individuals who have no prior consulting work experience. Because consulting firms are often organized into specific practice areas that require in-depth industry expertise, rarely are candidates recruited to join at the manager level. Ordinarily, recruiting begins at more junior level positions. Managers are developed organically through the system. This practice enables consultants to develop industry expertise while gaining smaller leadership opportunities through management more junior peers.
